Truth and Bright Water Reflection

Truth and Bright Water Reflection
The Truth and Bright Water essay was the best essay I have written in my years in English. The essay covered the human condition, and how “truth and idealism must be carefully balanced [to create a happy life.]” The novel Truth and Bright Water connects to many of the outcomes in the English 30-1 curriculum. My essay connected to the following outcomes:
Connect self, text, culture and milieu
I connected culture, text and milieu through the character of Lum, and “[his] ideal life was “the way it used to be.”(pg.161)” “The way it used to be” (pg.161) in the context from Truth and Bright Water reflects on the First Nation culture and the milieu of living on a reserve throughout the changing culture.

Discover Possibility 1.1 / Improve thoughtfulness, effectiveness and correctness of communication 4.2
Through editing, experimenting, and deeper understanding I created a thoughtful thesis statement to start off my essay. Stating the general theme “idealism may have a profound significance in and individual’s life making it difficult for truth and reality to be dealt with.” Changing wording, using different words, and create a deeper understanding within the book allowed me to develop a meaningful and thoughtful thesis to start the development of my essay.

In the next essay I write I will improve my use of past tense. I have learned in English 30-1 that when discussing a piece of literature the proper tense to use is past tense. I strive to enhance my next piece of writing by working to improve my sentence construction, grammar, and mechanics in my writing. In some areas I will develop context in order to succeed in English.
